Tension remains high in Mahira Cell, Nyakashebeya Parish, Kashambya Sub-county, Rukiga District, following a suspected arson attack on the home of a murder suspect.
According to police, the incident occurred on the night of April 25, 2025, at around 10:00 PM. Relatives of the late Christopher Atwebembere, alias Sadam, allegedly set fire to the house of Tumwijukye Denis, one of four suspects arrested in connection with Atwebembere’s murder earlier this month. The assailants also slashed Denis’s banana plantation during the attack.
Earlier that day, a team of detectives from Rukiga Police Station, together with the suspects, visited the scene as part of ongoing investigations. A search conducted at Denis’s residence, witnessed by the deceased’s brother, Twinojuni Francis, led to the recovery of two plastic chairs bearing bloodstains.
Following the detectives’ departure, the violent retaliation took place. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the arson and malicious damage.
Police, along with a scene of crime officer (SOCO), documented the incident, and investigations are still underway.
The police have called for calm as inquiries continue.
