The bodies of two students and a boat man who drowned in River rwizi on Monday night were by thisevening yet to be retrieved despite Residents efforts.
The search for bodies of three people who drowned in River Rwizi on in Taso village, Mbarara City continued last evening following unsuccessful attempts to find the bodies in the morning.
The trio drowned when their canoe capsized at around 07:30PM on Monday evening in Taso Village as they were rowing from Katete Side to Mbarara city.
The deceased were identified as Rukundo Amutuhaire 19, a senior Five student at Five Star High School in Ntungamo and a resident of Nyakaizi ward, Timothy Kakuru 23 years, a second year student pursuing a Medical Laboratory technology course at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and a resident of Karugangama and the boat man only identified as Rasta.
The fourth traveler identified as Willy Musa, 33 years survived the accident as he swam ashore.
Atukwatse Mukama Owembabazi a sister to Rukundo Amutuhaire narrated that her brother left home at around 5PM on Monday with friends to visit colleagues in the city.
Twaha Shohore the Chairperson Kyapotani cell blamed the incident on local leaders and security operatives who have failed curtail the operation of canoes along River Rwizi which puts lives at risk.
Rwizi police Spokesperson, ASP Samson Kasasira, urged members of the public to be very cautious as the volumes of River Rwizi have increased.
