As the 2026 general elections draw closer, Rukungiri Woman MP seat aspirant Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungi has called on residents of Bugangari Sub County to prioritize service delivery when choosing their next leaders.
During her campaign trail in the area, Mary Paula urged the electorate to vote for leaders who are development-focused and capable of transforming communities. She highlighted a range of pressing issues facing the people of Rukungiri, including poor roads, unreliable electricity supply, limited job opportunities, and substandard education systems. According to her, such challenges can only be addressed by competent and committed leaders who have the people’s welfare at heart.
She particularly expressed concern over the lack of a government vocational school in the district, saying it limits opportunities for young people to gain practical skills needed in today’s job market. She emphasized the need to operationalize the proposed industrial park in the district, arguing that it would create employment opportunities for the youth, especially those with technical skills.
Hon. Mary Paula also took time to recognize the legacy of the late Hon. Prisca Seith Mbaguta, former Minister of Public Service and Woman MP for Rukungiri. She praised the late leader for her efforts in lobbying for development in Rukungiri, particularly in expanding electricity coverage in Rujumbura County. She urged residents to build on that foundation by electing leaders who are equally committed to development.
Local leaders in Bugangari welcomed Mary Paula’s aspirations with optimism. Kenneth Nkamuheebwa, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyabitete Village, applauded her track record in Rubabo and expressed confidence in her ability to deliver if elected. He, however, pointed out persistent challenges in the area, including the poor state of the Kyoomera–Rukungiri road and the lack of electricity.
Similarly, Robert Tumusiime, LC2 Chairperson for Nyabitete Parish, described Mary Paula’s candidacy as a blessing, saying her leadership is much needed to tackle long-standing developmental obstacles. He also commended her for championing media development in the district, notably through her role in establishing Boona FM. He noted that the radio station has played a key role in giving a platform to ordinary citizens, amplifying their concerns, and drawing the attention of relevant authorities.
As campaigns continue, Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungi is positioning herself as a passionate advocate for grassroots development, determined to bring practical solutions to the people of Rukungiri.
