The Rukungiri District Woman MP NRM flag bearer candidate in the forthcoming general elections, Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungi, has praised the Bishop of Kabale Diocese for championing development in the region and urged parents to trust education as the only sure path to a bright future for their children.

She made the appeal on Saturday while officiating at a thanksgiving mass organized to raise funds for this year’s Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish, Buyanja in Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District.

This year, the Bishop decided to allow Parishes to organize internal BAAF activities and identify their own projects to implement, contributing only 30% of the Diocesan fee, which will be deducted from their overall collections. St. Peter’s Catholic Parish, Buyanja, is set to construct a storeyed hostel estimated to cost 300 million shillings.

Hon. Mary Paula commended the Bishop’s visionary investments, including the Rukungiri Centenary Bank infrastructure established under the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF). She also noted the prevailing shortage of land, which used to be inherited, and encouraged parents to embrace mindset change by investing in education as the best guarantee for their children’s future.

The former LC5 Chairperson for Rukungiri and NRM flag bearer for the same position, Anderson Charles Katebire, applauded the Church for its continued support toward education and called on parents to prioritize equipping schools to ensure better learning and teaching environments.

Rev. Fr. Davis Keinamura, the Diocesan Assistant Financial Administrator and head of the BAAF program, while presiding over the thanksgiving mass, urged Christians to emulate the teachings from the commemoration of All Saints Day and strive to live in the blessings of the Saints.

Rev. Fr. Benjamin Tukamushaba, the Priest of St. Peter’s Catholic Parish, Buyanja, commended the Bishop for allocating this year’s funds for inter-parish development and assured preparedness for effective utilization of the received funds on the hostel project, which will accommodate parish schools and generate income.

Christians, including Ian Tumwesigye, Judith Tibasimwa, and Anthony Nshoborokirwe, expressed gratitude to the Bishop for granting them the freedom to establish income-generating projects using BAAF funds.

A total of 75,200,000 shillings (Seventy-five million two hundred thousand) and 220 bags of cement were raised during the function.
