VANESSA
Hon. Bob Rugonde has officially been nominated as an independent candidate for Member of Parliament for Rubabo County.
Speaking shortly after the nomination exercise at 12:00 pm at the Rukungiri District Headquarters, overseen by Returning Officer Abas K. Namara, Hon. Rugonde assured his supporters that his campaign will focus on initiatives aimed at alleviating poverty, particularly through coffee planting programs he has championed in the past. He also pledged to lobby for additional services, including access to clean water across Rubabo County.
Hon. Rugonde urged his supporters to remain steadfast and not be intimidated, referencing the violence and police interference that occurred during the past NRM primary elections. He emphasized that this time, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda has assured full security at all polling stations to guarantee free and fair elections.
He further highlighted that every citizen has the right to vote without intimidation and underscored the importance of educating the public about their democratic rights. Hon. Rugonde explained that his decision to run as an independent stems from mismanagement during the NRM primaries, where several of his votes were allegedly not counted. He called on his supporters to unite and show overwhelming support in the upcoming general elections to ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
