The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially declared Hon. Beatrice Rwakimari as the party’s flag bearer for Ruhaama County. The announcement follows nearly two months of deliberations by the NRM tribunal to resolve a dispute between Rwakimari and the incumbent, Hon. Henry Zinkuratire.
Rwakimari, the former Woman Member of Parliament for Ntungamo District, had petitioned the NRM tribunal after results from the primaries initially suggested Zinkuratire was leading. The decision, delayed as the tribunal reviewed the case, was confirmed today by Vice chairperson NRM Electralcommission Fred Mach.
In a hotly contested primary involving eight candidates, Rwakimari emerged victorious with 15,739 votes, representing 36.6% of the total vote. Zinkuratire followed closely with 12,943 votes (30.2%).
This outcome secures Rwakimari the NRM flag as the official candidate for Ruhaama County in the upcoming general elections.
