At a heartfelt farewell mass held at Makiro Catholic Parish in Kanungu District, Christians were moved to tears as they bid adieu to Fr. Adrian Byomuhangyi, the outgoing parish priest and dean. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the parish.
Fosca Baryomunsi, representing her husband, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance and MP for Kinkizi East, spoke at the event. She urged the congregation to reflect on the legacy of Fr. Adrian, highlighting his numerous contributions to both the Catholic Church and the wider community. Under Fr. Adrian’s leadership, the parish saw substantial developments, including the renovation of the church, the construction of a hospital, and advancements in the education sector.
The mass was marked by emotional tributes as parishioners sang songs and delivered speeches in honor of the beloved priest. Parish leaders praised Fr. Adrian for his dedication to serving both Catholics and non-Catholics, noting his impact on the spiritual, economic, and social transformation of the parish and its surroundings.
In response to questions about why he was being reassigned at a time when his presence was still needed, Fr. Adrian explained that the decision was made in accordance with God’s will, the Bishop’s guidance, and his own commitment to serve wherever called. He will be transitioning to a new parish in Kisoro District, where he will continue his ministry.
Fr. Adrian will officially hand over his duties tomorrow before departing for his new assignment.
