Heads of schools have clarified that students are reporting back promptly despite public concerns over insufficient shopping and transportation challenges.
Rev. Ivan Mwongera, the head teacher of Kashenyi Secondary School in Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri District, confirmed that over 80% of students had registered. He urged parents to embrace timely school fees payment and strengthen collaboration between teachers and parents to ensure quality academic results.
Ivan Karabaaya, the director of IMBASS Secondary School in Ngoomba Parish, Rugarama Sub-county, Ntungamo District, acknowledged an average reporting rate. He urged parents to prioritize early student reporting and adopt a structured school fees payment plan to ensure a conducive learning environment and improved academic performance.
Sabiiti Erick, the head teacher of Rwabukoba Secondary School in Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri District, commended parents for prioritizing their children’s education and ensuring timely reporting. He also emphasized the need for continued collaboration between teachers and parents to enhance learning outcomes.
Gloria Turigye, the headmistress of Rwabihurwa Primary School in Nyeibingo Parish, Kebisoni Sub-county, Rukungiri District, expressed dissatisfaction over the low pupil turnout. She attributed the delay to parents keeping children at home for domestic chores. She called for a mindset change, stressing that education is a basic right that should be prioritized.
Deus Natukunda, a merchandise trader along Karegyesa Road in Rukungiri Town, reported limited sales during the second term. He attributed this to most school shopping having been done during the first term.
