Jafari Basajjabalaba, the chairman of Bushenyi District, has directed the district service commission and the chief administrative officer to demote head teachers whose schools underperformed in the recently released 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

In Bushenyi District, the PLE results showed that 934 pupils achieved Grade 1, 2,862 attained Grade 2, 595 received Grade 3, while 83 students were ungraded.

At a meeting held at the district council hall, Basajjabalaba emphasized that head teachers should be evaluated based on their performance over a minimum of four years.

However, participants argued that the poor performance of candidates was due to inadequate supervision by school inspectors, who allegedly prioritize schools that offer bribes.

Edward Mpabwa, the secretary for education and social services in Bushenyi, urged school management committees to dedicate time to engage parents in supporting their children and advocating for school development.

Meanwhile, in Kwania district, more than ten head teachers are facing potential demotion following the unsatisfactory performance of their pupils in the 2023 PLE, with 406 pupils receiving ungraded marks.
