Residents of Kikarara Parish in Bwambara Sub County, Rukungiri District, are seeking emergency assistance following the destruction of their gardens by a severe hailstorm.

According to the residents, strong winds escalated into a powerful hailstorm that lasted from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm before the rain started. The storm caused significant damage to banana plantations, cassava, potatoes, and coffee gardens, resulting in a critical shortage of food.

Gideon Bandonda Salongo, the Lay Leader of Garuka Church of Uganda, has called for relief food aid from the government and well-wishers, emphasizing that people are in desperate need of support.

Scovia Katusiime, the Sub County Councilor representing Kikarara Parish, advised farmers to harvest mature crops for storage to ensure some level of food sustainability.

Christopher Kagayano, the Chairperson of LC3 Bwambara Sub County, confirmed his awareness of the disaster and stated that the Agricultural Officer has been assigned to document the incident to facilitate disaster preparedness interventions.
