The Chairman of LC5 Chairpersons in Kigezi Sub-region, Nelson Nshangabasheija has appealed to the government of Uganda to declare Kabale district and the entire Kigezi Sub-region in particular as a hard-to-reach area.
Nshangabasheija who doubles as the LC5 Chairperson for Kabale District made this statement on Thursday yesterday in his remarks at the post-Budget Conference between stakeholders in Kigezi sub-region and officials from URA and the Ministry of Finance at Cephas Inn Hotel in Kabale Municipality.
Nshangabasheija noted when the state of infrastructure in the region is not put to its best state, government programs such as the parish development model, a government initiative aimed at transforming 39% of Uganda from the poverty line will not be achieved or make any impact among Ugandans.
He expressed his disappointment with the government for cutting the budget for road funds citing that the funds Kabale District used to get for road maintenance have been cut to 1 billion shillings which cannot even carry out maintenance of one road.
Aggrey Matsiko, the Proprietor of Bricop’s international limited in Kabale Municipality backed Nshangabasheija saying that Kigezi Sub-region needs proper attention.
They asked the Ministry of Finance to always consider Kigezi districts while allocating funds.
