Residents of Kigarigari and Kanyatuutu in Bugangari Sub County, Rukungiri District, with the support of Gen. Jim Muhwezi, the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency, have constructed a bridge connecting the sub-counties of Bugangari and Ruhinda. This development aims to ease transport and save lives.

The Kigarigari-Kanyatuutu-Njororo Bridge connects people from Bugangari, Ruhinda, and Nyakajeme, enabling them to access services in these areas more conveniently.

After years of appeals from residents about the poor state of the bridge, the community decided to take matters into their own hands. They began working on the project by mobilizing funds among themselves. Despite the slow progress, they received a significant boost when Hon. Gen. Jim Muhwezi donated iron poles and UGX 1 million to help complete the project.

Residents, who spent the entire day working on the bridge as part of a community development initiative, expressed their gratitude to Gen. Jim Muhwezi for his support. They said his contributions have restored hope, and they are optimistic about completing the bridge soon, making it easier to access services on either side.

Gashom Ngabirano, the coordinator for the bridge project, outlined the challenges they have faced in conducting business across the bridge and the difficulty of raising funds from residents. He emphasized the need for additional support from well-wishers to complete the bridge and lauded Gen. Jim Muhwezi for his consistent backing since the project began.

Isaac Kaharuza, the political assistant to Gen. Jim Muhwezi, presented the support on his behalf. He commended the community for their collective effort to save lives and improve infrastructure.

Kaharuza assured residents that Gen. Jim Muhwezi remains committed to supporting them until the bridge is fully constructed. He also promised that poor roads in the area would be addressed soon.

He urged residents to maintain their spirit of self-reliance and community development and encouraged others to emulate this initiative, rather than relying solely on the government for every development project.
