A fatal road accident occurred on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at around 2:55 p.m. in Kiborogota Cell, Kebisoni Town Council, along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo Road. The tragic collision claimed the lives of two young men, leaving the community in mourning.

The accident involved a white and blue Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBR 066L, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UGD 451R. The driver of the truck fled the scene and remains at large, while the motorcycle’s rider, Ngabirano Onesmus, aged 24, and his passenger, Muhirwe Derrick, aged 28, lost their lives in the collision.

According to police reports, the Fuso truck was traveling from Kebisoni towards Rukungiri town when the driver attempted to dodge a depression in the road. This maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with the motorcycle, which was heading from Rukungiri-Buyanja. The suspected point of impact appears to have been in the lane of the motorcycle.

Ngabirano, a boda boda rider and resident of Karuhembe Cell in Kebisoni Town Council, died on the spot. His passenger, Derrick, a resident of Muhanga Cell, Kebisoni Town Council, was rushed to Nyakibale Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police, led by the District Traffic Officer (DTO), promptly visited and examined the scene. Both the truck and motorcycle were impounded and are being held at Rukungiri Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). Statements from witnesses have been recorded, and the bodies of the deceased were taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the truck driver responsible for the accident. Authorities have urged the public to provide any information that could aid in his capture.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident, emphasizing the need for road users to exercise caution to prevent such tragedies. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
