Residents of Furuma cell in the Kalangaro ward, Western Division of Rukungiri municipality are facing significant challenges accessing main roads, highlighting the urgent need for community access roads. They have criticized their leaders for what they perceive as negligence in addressing this issue.
The community has voiced their concerns regarding the inadequate road infrastructure in their area. Farmers, in particular, are suffering losses due to high transportation costs caused by the poor road conditions. The Furuma-Nyamanbo road, the only community road that has been rehabilitated, is currently in a deplorable state, filled with mud and large potholes, rendering it impassable.
The residents lamented that the substandard road network is hindering the transportation of agricultural produce to markets and posing difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities for patients. Additionally, traders are finding it challenging to access the sub-county, thereby impacting the prices of their goods.
Despite assurances from their leaders, the residents feel let down by the lack of action to improve the road network. They are appealing to their leaders for urgent intervention.
In response to the outcry, Counsel Isaac Atukunda, who is eyeing the Rukungiri municipality NRM seat, has pledged a contribution of 3 million Ugandan Shillings to fuel a tractor for road maintenance in the area.
