Over 200 eye patients in Bugangari Sub County, Rukungiri District, and the neighborhood on Monday 2023 received free eye care services ushered by the Lions Club of Rukungiri.
Lions Club of Rukungiri organized a 2-day camp that started on Monday at Bugangari Health Center 4, in Bugangari Sub County, Rukungiri District to provide free eye care services to the incapable patients in a bid to fulfill their vision of service beyond self and help the needy.

Patients attended eye screening, Care teaching, and treatment, received free glasses and those who needed an operation were referred to partner hospitals for surgery.

Professor Amos Twinamatsiko, a specialist in eye care services from Ruharo eye center Mbarara City who led the health workers has called on the government to embark on improving eye care services citing a need to train and deploy eye care attendants at least at every health center 4 for eye diseases management.

The President of the Lions Club of Rukungiri Conerious Byarugaba revealed that they organized the camp to avail services to those who can’t afford to seek them from distant facilities.

The Former president of the Lions Club of Rukungiri Edson Muhwezi Mpirime appreciated the partnership of the Lions Club with the government in providing health care services.

The District Councilor representing Bugangari Sub County Teddy Tumushabe appreciated the good work done by Lions Club and voiced a need for the government to initiate a sufficient supply of drugs at the facility since it constantly runs out of stock yet it serves large mass patients of non-communicable diseases.
Kenneth Byamugisha, a resident of Rwengwe cell, Kashayo parish, Bugangari Sub County who benefited from the camp noted that he was a tailor but sold his tailoring machine for failure to see and therefore expressed gratitude on receiving care and glasses.
