The territorial police in Rukungiri have arrested four suspects in connection with the assault and subsequent death of 30-year-old Mwesigwa Nazario.
The suspects are: Muyambi Quraisi, also known as Cooler, Kyarisima Pias, Tukundane Ivan, and Ninsima Agatha.
The incident occurred on June 23, 2024, at approximately 04:22 AM in Kibale Cell, Karangaro Ward, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality. It is reported that Muyambi Quraisi, alias Cooler, went to the bar owned by Ninsima Agatha and found the deceased with others. Quraisi ordered crude waragi worth 500 UGX and cigarettes worth 300 UGX for everyone, intending for them to leave him alone with Agatha. However, the deceased refused the offer and remained seated, which angered Quraisi and Kyarisima Pias. They forcefully removed him from the bar and repeatedly hit him against the metallic door.
A neighbor, Kamigane David, who was in the adjacent room, heard the commotion and intervened, shouting at them to stop the assault. After they left, the victim staggered home but could not enter his house. Around 07:00 AM on June 24, 2024, his mother, Nabagereka Scovia, found him on the doorstep and informed Speria Orikiriza. The victim disclosed that Muyambi Quraisi, Kyarisima Pias, and others had assaulted him. They carried him to his bed, but upon checking later, he was found dead. The area chairperson, Turyahikayo Francisco, was notified and reported the incident to the police with Speria Orikiriza.
The police visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from relevant witnesses, and arrested the four suspects. The deceased’s body was taken to Rwakabengo HC 3 mortuary for a postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
