The Bishop Comboni College Kambuga community in Kanungu district is grieving the loss of their esteemed school founder, Father Paolino Tomaino, who passed away at the age of 88.
Father Paolino was born on November 4, 1937, in San Pietro Apostolo, located in the Calabria Region of southern Italy, to Santo and Rosina Tomaino. Ordained as a priest at the age of 27 on June 28, 1964, he dedicated his life to serving as a Missionary Priest in the Society of the Comboni Missionaries, primarily in Africa.
With a passion for education and spreading the Gospel, Father Paolino established Bishop Comboni College Kambuga in 1982. He also founded Comboni Hospital Kyamuhunga to address healthcare needs in Bushenyi, followed by St. Mary’s College Kyamuhunga and Kyamuhunga People’s SACCO (KYAPS).
A devout man of God, Father Paolino contributed significantly to the development of Catholic churches in various areas, including Karujanga in Rwanyana Parish, Buhara in Kabale district, Kambuga, and Nyamwegabira in Kanungu district.
In addition to these endeavors, Father Paolino initiated the establishment of other educational institutions such as Sedes Sapiencia Girls School in Kiruhura district, as well as San Giovanni Makiro in Makiro Parish and St. Charles Lwanga SS Zorooma in Rushoroza Parish, both located in Kanungu district.
He also founded the Fr. Paolino Foundation in Rushere, Kiruhura, and contributed to numerous other developmental projects during his time in Africa.
Father Paolino passed away at Milan Hospital in Italy.
