The former Rujumbura County MP has praised Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe of the North Kigezi Diocese for his efforts in combating corruption, which is a significant challenge in Uganda.

The praise came during an appeal to hundreds of believers gathered at St. James Rwabukoba Church of Uganda in the Kashenyi Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, for the installation of Reverend Johnson Kamunini.

Turyamuhweza’s commendation follows recent video clips of Bishop Onesmus condemning corruption and urging Christians not to be swayed by money when selecting leaders.

Turyamuhweza, who is also the head of the laity of Kashenyi Archdeaconry, challenged church leaders to actively participate in the fight against corruption by praying for the country and ensuring the proper use of church funds.

During his sermon, Venerable James Busingye, the Archdeacon of Kashenyi Archdeaconry, urged the clergy to be exemplary to Christians and to carry out God’s work faithfully to advance the Church of Christ. He also admonished priests to avoid negative behaviors such as alcoholism and adultery that mislead Christians.

Peter Kiyasiimire, the head of the laity at St. James Rwabukoba Church, commended Bishop Onesimus for appointing Rev. Kamunini, who, he said, is already making positive contributions to the parish’s revival and church development. Kiyasiimire expressed the congregation’s readiness to cooperate with Rev. Kamunini in developing the parish.

Rev. Kamunini committed to pursuing God’s work with dedication, focusing on enhancing revival and supporting the development of the church through initiatives such as schools, health units, and plantations.

As a guest of honor, Henry Mugarura from the President’s Office encouraged congregants to embrace government poverty eradication programs like Emyooga, the Parish Development Model, and UWEP, among others, to improve household income.
