Former Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Andrew Aja Baryayanga, has reconnected with the National Resistance Movement Party (NRM) after being away from active party involvement for nearly fourteen years.

Baryayanga officially rejoined the party by updating his information in the National Resistance Movement-NRM party register yesterday. His return coincided with an event where more than 200 NRM members updated their details at Kilwa A cell in Kijuguta ward, Northern Division, precisely at noon, as part of the ongoing National Resistance Movement-party membership register update exercise.

Discussing his absence from NRM party elections, Aja disclosed that he chose to contest as an independent candidate in the 2011 and 2016 general elections due to alleged electoral irregularities during the 2010 party elections in Kabale Municipality. These irregularities resulted in the declaration of former State Minister for Tourism, Serapio Rukundo, as the winner.

He mentioned that after consulting with constituents, he is now confident that he can secure victory in the party elections and subsequently in the general election under the NRM banner. He emphasized that providing essential services to the people such as water, education, and healthcare remains his top priority.

Aja’s return follows a setback in the 2021 general elections, where he was defeated by the Forum for Democratic Change candidate, Dr. Nicholas Thedius Kamara, who currently holds the position of Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament.
