Five families in Kitanda Cell, Nyakaina Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District have been displaced due to the sinking and collapse of their homes’ infrastructure.
This disaster occurred last night, with houses beginning to erupt water from underground and walls developing cracks as a result of heavy rainfall in the area.
Lydia Tusingwire, a mother of six, reported that they had noticed cracks and water accumulating over the past three days, which worsened with the heavy rainfall.
Wilber Kamagara, a father whose home collapsed, mentioned that despite preparing a strong foundation, he was shocked to see his house sinking, leaving his family of six and grandchildren without shelter.
Anthony Kosia made a plea for assistance, emphasizing the loss of infrastructure and stranded livestock.
Nyansio Kamugisha, the Sub County Councilor representing Nyakaina Parish, acknowledged the natural disaster, recalling his relocation from the affected area to a neighboring one a decade ago. He called for government intervention.
Agaba Emmy Rubondo, Chairperson of LC3 Buyanja Sub County, led an inspection team and advised the affected families to vacate their homes entirely for their safety. He urged disaster preparedness officials to intervene.
