Minister of Finance (General Duties) Henry Musasizi has announced that the government will clear the delayed salaries of civil servants next week.

This announcement was made during his visit to Kyokyezo Parish in Nyamweru Sub-county, Rubanda District, where he was inspecting the Kyokyezo-Butambi road construction.

In response to the recent strike by primary school teachers in Kabale District over unpaid salaries for June and July, which led to pupils being sent home earlier this week, Minister Musasizi emphasized that the salary delays are a nationwide issue and not isolated to Kabale. He advised teachers to consult with the government before resorting to strikes and noted that pension arrears are a significant concern in Kabale, which will be addressed.

The Minister assured that pensions and gratuities have been budgeted for in the current financial year and emphasized that pension arrears should no longer be a problem. He encouraged those affected to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance to resolve the arrears and ensure prompt payment of monthly pensions and gratuities.

He explained that the delay in salary payments was due to a system migration between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Public Service, which affected payroll processing. He confirmed that this issue has been resolved and that all civil servants will receive their salaries starting next week.
