The opposition Forum for democratic change (FDC) has halted grassroots elections in the Western region following challenges at the party headquarters arguing that continuity of such may escalate challenges and cause illegalities.
The FDC western region vice chairman former Rukungiri municipality Member of Parliament Mugume Roland Kaginda said on Friday that they have since asked all the district leaders to stop the process forthwith as they await a statement from several meetings being held to iron out the challenges.
Despite the squabbles, some party branches have been continuing to mobilize elections, an issue prompting the party to act.
Kaginda notes that several meetings are taking place to see through the party challenges that even led to locking out members from party headquarters including the party national chairman on Thursday.
Sections have been accusing the party president Eng Patrick Oboi Amuriat and secretary general Nathan Nandala Mafabi of financial impropriety at the party.
