The Forum for Democratic Change party chairpersons from the greater Kabale District have defied participating in the party’s elections slated for Friday, citing internal chaos within the party.

The new roadmap issued by FDC Chief Electoral Commissioner, Toterebuka Bamwenda Boniface, indicates that elections for village and Parish structures will now take place from July 21 to July 23, 2023.

These elections will be conducted at multiple levels, spanning from the village to the district level.

In Rukiga District, FDC Party Chairman, Kwarikunda Micheal Mbareba, acknowledged that mobilization efforts had begun. However, due to the turmoil within the party, confusion reigns supreme.

Mbareba, a member of the FDC National Council, stated that they are awaiting a resolution from the national council.

The FDC National Council, consisting of party leaders ranging from the president to district chairpersons and Members of Parliament, will convene on July 28, 2023, to address pressing issues from various power centers that are currently affecting the party.

The situation in Kabale District seems complicated as the FDC Vice Chairperson, Gideon Tumwesigye, revealed that they have not received any circular from the FDC Secretariat concerning the elections.

Tumwesigye further explained that the lack of voter registers and updates has left the district unprepared to hold elections tomorrow.

The FDC’s ambitious plan includes conducting elections in 71,230 villages, 10,595 parishes, 2,211 sub-counties, 353 constituencies, and 150 districts. At each level, nine (9) members of the Youth League, nine (9) members of the Women League, and eight (8) members of the Mainstream/Executive will be elected.
