Police in Rukungiri responded to a single fatal road accident on the 27th of April 2024, around 20:00hrs, at Mironzi Cell, Kikongi Parish, Bwambara sub-county along the Rukungiri-Kihihi road in Rukungiri district.
The incident involved a solitary motorcycle bearing registration number UEZ 084G, a red Bajaj Boxer, operated by Tibiine Johnson Benard, a 51-year-old Munyankore by tribe and a resident of Kyebumbire, Ruhinda, Burombe sub-county, Rukungiri district. Tibiine was a bodaboda rider.
Reports suggest that Tibiine was traveling from Kihihi towards Rukungiri when he lost control of the motorcycle, veered off the road, and collided with his forehead against gravel remains from road construction, resulting in an instantaneous fatality.
Authorities visited and documented the scene, cleared it, and transported Tibiine’s body to Rwakabengo Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination. The motorcycle is currently parked at the Rukungiri Central Police Station awaiting investigation inspection.
Preliminary investigations point to driving under the influence of alcohol as the primary cause. Ongoing inquiries seek to establish further details.
