A tragic incident in Kabale has resulted in a fatal accident claiming the lives of two individuals.
The unfortunate event unfolded on the 17th of December 2023 at approximately 1400hrs at Kabaraga along the Kabale-Mbarara highway within Kabale District.
The vehicles involved are a white Toyota Premio with registration number UAU 097W and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UFX 791S.
The victims have been identified as follows: Davis Arinaitwe, a 30-year-old Mukiga and resident of Kabatogote cell, Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district. He was the rider of the motorcycle, John Mucunguzi, also a 30-year-old Mukiga and resident of Mugandara cell, Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district. He was a passenger on the motorcycle.
According to reports, the Toyota Premio with registration number UAU 097N was traveling from Mbarara towards Kabale. The driver, who is currently evading authorities, was allegedly using a mobile phone and driving in the wrong lane. As the vehicle reached Kabaraga, a head-on collision occurred with the Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UFX 791S, which was en route from Kabale to Mbarara. This resulted in the immediate death of both the rider and the passenger.
The incident was reported to the police, and the scene was attended by ASP Mucunguzi Wilson, the Officer in Charge of Traffic in Kabale, assisted by No. 42899 Cpl Kambale Isaac. The bodies were subsequently transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations. The involved vehicles are currently parked at the Kabale police yard pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (I.O.V).
An ongoing investigation aims to determine the precise cause of this tragic accident.
