In Ntungamo District, a tragic incident unfolded as the police recorded a case of murder by stabbing involving Bakasisa Constansio, a 109-year-old female peasant resident of Kahunga 1 Cell, Kahunga Parish. The alleged perpetrator is her husband, Babiiha Dominic, a 110-year-old male resident of the same address.
Reportedly, on the evening of December 14, 2023, around 8:00 PM after supper, the suspect requested the deceased to join him in his bedroom. However, she declined due to feeling weak and having a cough. Subsequently, the two retired to their separate rooms, with the deceased accompanied by two of their great-grandchildren.
The following morning, around 7:00 AM on December 15, 2023, the suspect raised an alarm, expressing that he couldn’t face death alone. When the deceased’s 10-year-old great-granddaughter opened the door to investigate, she encountered the armed suspect wielding a machete-like weapon (Oruhabyo). He ordered her to leave the premises and proceeded to stab the deceased multiple times.
Fleeing the scene, the great-grandchild sought help from neighbors, who promptly responded. Upon arrival, they discovered Bakasisa Constansio lifeless, while Babiiha Dominic had locked himself in his bedroom. Upon gaining entry, he was found unconscious with a bottle of agricultural chemical beside him.
The police were notified and swiftly responded, transporting the suspect to Itojo Hospital for medical attention. The crime scene was thoroughly documented, and the murder weapon was recovered and secured. A postmortem examination was conducted on the deceased.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the violent act stemmed from the denial of conjugal rights within the married couple, who resided in the same house but slept in separate rooms. However, inquiries into the matter are still ongoing.
The police strongly condemn all forms of violence and urge the public to seek nonviolent resolutions to conflicts or seek assistance from relevant authorities.
