The Rukiga territorial police recorded a tragic incident of electrocution resulting in the death of Godfrey Mbalire, a 40-year-old electrician residing in Bukwiri cell, Bukwiri town council, Butembe sub-county, Kyankwanzi district.

The incident occurred on March 29, 2024, around 13:30 local time, at Luhonwa cell, Butare ward, Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga district, in the residence of Mansa James, a businessman.

Reportedly, on March 29, 2024, while Mbalire was repairing electrical wiring at Mansa James’ residence, a power outage occurred. In response, Mbalire removed his gloves and continued working with his bare hands. Unbeknownst to him, the power was restored, and he continued working with exposed hands, resulting in severe electrocution. His coworker alerted family members present, who rushed him to Rotom Health Centre for further treatment. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Gerald Twinomugisha, Mansa James’ son, notified the police. The scene was investigated, processed, and documented by the District Police Commander (DPC) and a team. Statements were taken from witnesses, an autopsy was conducted, and the body was released to the family for burial.

Investigations are ongoing to ascertain further details of the incident.
