Bishop Gaddie Akanjuna of the Diocese of Kigezi in Kabale District has underscored that despite clergy and bishops of the Reformed Anglican Church wearing attire similar to that of the Church of Uganda, they are distinct from Anglicans.
Bishop Akanjuna emphasized during a recent press conference at his residence at the diocesan headquarters on Rugarama Hill in Kabale Municipality’s northern division, where he delivered his Easter Message, that despite their outward resemblance, members of the Reformed Anglican Church adhere to the Reformed tradition and are not Anglicans.
His remarks come in the wake of the establishment of a Reformed Anglican Church congregation in Nyakiharo-Mwanjari in Kabale Municipality’s southern division. The Most Reverend Prof. Jonathan Kyangasha, Archbishop of the Reformed Anglican Church, inaugurated the Kigezi Reformed Anglican Church Archdeaconry on Palm Sunday, ordaining and installing Spencer Byamukama, a former lay reader in the Church of Uganda, Diocese of Kigezi, as the Vicar.
While acknowledging the government of Uganda’s provision of freedom of worship, Bishop Akanjuna stressed the importance of recognizing the Reformed Anglican Church as a separate entity from the Church of Uganda, despite their similar appearances.
He expressed a willingness to welcome back members of the Reformed Anglican Church into the fold of the Church of Uganda with open arms.
