Police in Kabale District are investigating a tragic incident in which a 50-year-old electrician, only identified as Gilbert alias Engineer, died by electrocution while fixing an electrical socket in a client’s home.

According to the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the incident occurred on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, at around 4:00pm in Karugashe Cell, Butobere Ward, Central Division, Kabale Municipality.

It is reported that Gilbert had been called by Akahurira Catherine, 34, an assistant administrator at the Kabale Chief Magistrates Court, to repair a socket inside her bedroom. While he worked, Catherine illuminated the area using her phone as the electricity supply had gone off.

Moments later, power was restored. Catherine reportedly alerted Gilbert after noticing the light bulb had come on, but he assured her that he understood what he was doing and continued working.

A short while after, Catherine noticed Gilbert collapse, urinate on himself, and become unresponsive. She immediately called her landlord, and together with neighbors they rushed him to Dr. Anguyo’s Clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police at Kabale Central Police Station visited and documented the scene, recorded witness statements, and facilitated a postmortem examination of the deceased.

Investigations into the electrocution incident are underway.
