An elderly woman lost her life on Sunday evening in a tragic hit-and-run accident along the Kihihi–Kanungu road near 2 Stars in Nyamwegabira Parish.
According to police reports, the deceased, identified as 70-year-old Nyamushemire Rehonya, a resident of Nyamwegabira Parish in Kihihi Town Council, was crossing the road to return to her church when she was struck by an unidentified speeding motorcycle. She died instantly at the scene.
Police, led by PC Matanda, responded to the incident and transported the body to Kihihi Health Centre IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Authorities are still searching for the motorcycle and its rider, who fled the scene after the collision.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Speaking about the case, ASP Maate Elly, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, urged anyone with information about the suspect or the motorcycle involved to report to the nearest police station.
