Police in Kabale District have launched a manhunt for Tumuhereze Maritazari, a male adult accused of brutally murdering his five-year-old biological son, Turyasingura Remegio, in a gruesome attack on Saturday evening.

According to police reports, the tragic incident occurred on April 26, 2025, at around 8:00 PM at Kasiru Village, Nyombe Parish, Kahungye Sub-county. Preliminary investigations indicate that earlier that day, at about 2:00 PM, Maritazari had a violent altercation with his wife, Tumwebaze Agnes, at Kasiru Trading Centre. The suspect reportedly accused his wife of infidelity, claiming the child was not his, as he had been away for seven years.

Witnesses say Maritazari first assaulted Agnes at a local bar owned by a man named Rogers and later at her mother’s home. He then proceeded alone to their residence, where, in a fit of rage, he allegedly picked up a panga, viciously attacked young Remegio, and fled the scene, leaving the child dead.

Authorities from Kahungye Police Station swiftly opened a case of murder. The Kabale homicide team, led by Acting District CID Officer D/IP Barijunaki Samuel, responded to the crime scene, conducting an examination and documentation. Statements have been recorded from key witnesses, and the child’s body was examined at the scene.

The suspect remains at large as police intensify their search.

“The investigations are ongoing, and all efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect,” said ASP Maate Elly, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson.
