Police in Sheema District are investigating how eight suspects managed to escape from police cells.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident occurred on August 1, 2024, at around 3:20 AM at Sheema Central Police Station.
Tumusiime reported that the eight male suspects escaped through an aluminum roof on the toilet window. The suspects have been identified as follows:
- Jocknions Akampa, charged with murder
- Hakim Matoove, charged with burglary and theft
- Aggry Musika, charged with criminal trespass
- Ambrose Byamukama, charged with burglary and theft
- Asingwire Musinguzi, charged with theft
- Benson Mpumwire, charged with theft
- Ashraf Tugume, charged with stealing a motor vehicle
- Accum Clinton, charged with aggravated robbery
Tumusiime stated that investigations are underway, including obtaining statements from the police officers on duty, who may be charged with neglect of duty. A case of escape from lawful custody has been filed against the suspects, and efforts to re-arrest them are ongoing.
