Drama unfolded on Thursday as Kabale district councilors once again rejected the approval of 59-year-old Cellina Kagimba as a member of the District Service Commission.
Kagimba, a retired head teacher for Muchahi Primary School in Rubanda, was presented to the council for approval during the last sitting by Miria Akankwatsa Tugume, the deputy LC5 Chairman, on behalf of the District Chairman.
However, the councilors expressed their dissent and preferred another candidate to be put forward for approval, as stated by the district speaker, Rt. Hon Flavia Kanagizi Nyinakiiza.
In the 6th and final Kabale District council sitting for the 2023/24 financial year, District LC5 Chairman Nelson Nshangabasheija confidently reintroduced Kagimba for approval.
This action by Nshangabasheija elicited strong objections from various councilors, who criticized the procedure through which he presented the name on behalf of the council sitting.
In response to the situation, the district speaker, Rt. Hon Flavia Kanagizi Nyinakiiza, advised that a motion rescinding the previous council minutes should be made if the name is brought back to the council.
However, Nshangabasheija argued that there was no valid reason for the council to object to Kagimba’s approval since she possesses all the necessary qualifications.
