Police in Kihihi Town Council in Kanungu District are investigating circumstance under which a truck belonging to CHICO Construction Company, lost control and killed two people.
The accident happened in Omukishayi cell, Ntungwa parish Nyamirama sub-county Kanungu district after a vehicle rammed into the houses along Kanungu-Ishasha road.
It’s alleged that on Thursday midnight, the vehicle that was carrying sand lost control after the driver slept off and knocked three houses along the road which led to the death of a driver, a baby and injured other seven people who were asleep.
The injured were rushed to Kigezi Community Hospital in Kihiihi Town Council for management.
Speaking with our reporter today morning, residents said that after the incident, CHICO staff visited the crime scene with police and army and removed the number plate from the truck and went out without even helping the victims.
Tukwasiibwe Martin, a resident of Kashojwa cell, Kibimbiri parish, Kanungu Sub-county, Kanungu district attributes the accident on reckless driving and driving trucks that in poor mechanical conditions.
On 5th June this year, another truck from CHICO Construction Company, killed Turinawe Alex 35 a resident of Kakirago cell 1, Bugangari Sub-county in an accident that happened at Kikirago village along Rukungiri-Kanungu Road Rukungiri District.
These, have joined Tumusabe Bringing aged 30, a resident of Kamushwa village in Nyakinoni Sub County who was killed on 12th June 2021 on her way to Kihihi Market after another CHICO construction company lost control at Meizimeera along Kihihi – Rukungiri Road.
