RUKUNGIRI | Tuesday, July 17, 2025 — Tension is mounting in Rujumbura County after reports emerged alleging the creation of illegal polling stations at three schools within Rukungiri District. The schools implicated include Kashenyi Secondary School, St. Raphael SS, and Rwabukoba SS.

According to credible sources, the purported move is being orchestrated by the Rukungiri District NRM Chairman and Security Minister, Hon. Jim Muhwezi, alongside Ms. Natukunda Medius Kaharata, in what is being described as an attempt to manipulate the outcome of the upcoming elections.

Information reaching this newsroom indicates that a cow was allegedly given to each of the three schools, reportedly as an incentive to influence the support of students and school leadership in favor of the two politicians. The motivation behind the act, according to observers, appears to be a calculated effort to use educational institutions as voter mobilization hubs — a move critics say undermines democratic principles.

Citizens, activists, and political observers are now calling for urgent investigation into the matter. They argue that the presence of polling stations in schools without legal authorization is a violation of electoral procedures and risks drawing students—most of whom are minors—into a flawed political process.

This is a developing story. We will provide more updates as the situation unfolds.
