Police in Kanungu district is investigating circumstance under which a 32-year-old man attempted to commit suicide using a tear gas canister.
According to Elly Mate the Kigezi region police spokesperson, the victims has been identified as Abagambe a resident of Kashayo village, Nyarutojo Parish, Kambuga sub-county in Kanungu district.
The matter which happened yesterday in Kashayo trading center, was reported at Kanungu police station by Karamagye Hilary, 36 years old, a resident of the same address who is also an elder brother of the victim.
It’s alleged that on Tuesday at about 10:00 pm, neighbors of Kabagambe Ambrose “the victim” heard the sound of an explosive and they responded immediately only to find harmful smoke from a tear gas canister and the victim came out from the house with serious injuries but the relatives rushed him to Kambuga referral hospital where he is getting treatment.
The crime scene was visited by a team of detectives headed by ASP Twesigye Aggrey O/C station Kanungu together with D/SOCO, examined, and an exhibit of a canister holder was recovered.
The victim is currently admitted at Kambuga referral hospital thereafter recovery will be charged for being in possession of government stores.
According to the information obtained from the ground, the victim is a former Crime preventer who has been in illegal possession of the said tear gas canister.
