Tragedy struck on Thursday evening, October 2, 2025, when a couple perished in a fatal road accident along the Kisoro–Kabale highway.
The accident occurred at around 6:20 pm opposite Airland Hotel, Nyakabande, involving a Mercedes Benz semi-trailer, registration number KDR 693N/ZH5807, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UDN 775S.
The deceased have been identified as Sebahinzi Kenneth (40), the motorcycle rider, and his wife Ntiringanya Sylvia (38), both residents of Mubuga village, Gitendere Parish, Nyarusiza Subcounty, Kisoro District.
According to police, the couple was heading towards Kisoro town from Nyakabande when their motorcycle collided head-on with the semi-trailer, which was coming from the Kyanika border en route to Kabale. Both victims died instantly.
Police, led by DTO ASP Ainomugisha Musa and his team, visited and documented the scene, recorded eyewitness statements, and conveyed the bodies to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Meanwhile, the driver of the semi-trailer fled the scene and is currently on the run. The vehicles involved have been parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Maate Elly, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
