Counsel Isaac Atukunda, the aspiring Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, made a generous donation of food items to the Muslim community in the municipality today, 27th February 2025. The donation comes as Muslims prepare to begin fasting on Saturday, 1st March, marking the holy month of Ramadan.
The donated items, which included rice and maize flour, were presented to representatives from various mosques in Rukungiri Municipality, including the Rukungiri Main Mosque, Marumba Mosque, Katwe Kamwe Mosque, and Ruruku Mosque Twale.
While presenting the items, Isaac Atukunda expressed his support for the Muslim community as they enter the fasting and prayer period. He stated that the donation was just one of many ways he hoped to assist the community and promised his continued support. He also urged Muslims to pray for peace in the municipality and the country, especially as the election season approaches.
Sheikh Abdul Malik Kayole, the Rukungiri District Kadhi, who received the donation on behalf of the Rukungiri Main Mosque, thanked Councilor Isaac for the generous gesture. He emphasized that it is a long-standing tradition for Muslims to gather at their mosques to share a meal after fasting, and that donations like this are essential to supporting those in need during this time. He praised Isaac for his kindness and assured him of the mosque’s prayers for his success. Sheikh Kayole also encouraged Muslims to honor this sacred month of fasting by remaining honest, speaking words of development, and using the period for repentance.
Several Muslims present during the donation, including Naturinda Modern Sharif, the spokesperson for the Rukungiri Main Mosque; Babiiha Hamudhan, the chairperson of Marumba Mosque; Kyeyuune Muhammud, the councilor for Katwe Kamwe Mosque; and Sheikh Baduru Byabagambi from Ruruku Mosque, all expressed their gratitude for Councilor Isaac’s thoughtful donation. They pledged to pray for him and support him in the upcoming elections. They noted that it has often been a challenge for Muslim communities to receive such support, and Isaac’s gesture demonstrated his leadership potential.
They also encouraged other individuals and well-wishers to join in supporting the Muslim community during this important time.
