The construction of Ruhiija Seed Secondary School in Rubanda District has reached an impressive 73% completion milestone.
The District Authorities have commended Contractor Geses Uganda Limited for their ahead-of-schedule progress and adherence to the bills of quantities. This update was shared during the 3rd meeting of the project implementation committee, held at the school grounds in Ruhiija Sub County.
Ruhiija Seed Secondary School, funded by the government at a cost of UgX 3.1 billion under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer Programme II (UGFIT), began construction in March 2022. The contractor is expected to hand over the completed structures in February 2024.
Alex Kwizeera, the Rubanda District Chief Administrative Officer, expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s work and noted that no issues have been observed at the construction site.
Eng. Peter Nkurunungi, the Executive Director of Geses Uganda Ltd, attributed their successful progress to timely payments by the Government of Uganda through Rubanda District Local Government, reiterating their commitment to meeting the project’s timeline.
The Rubanda District LC.5 Chairperson, Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba, took the opportunity to express gratitude to the Kabale Catholic Diocese for providing the land to the government for the construction of Ruhiija Seed Secondary School.
He highlighted the land’s value at UgX 600 million and its strategic location in the Tourism Zone, adjacent to Bwindi and Mgahinga National Park.
The Rubanda District RDC Longino Byagageire encouraged the school administration to focus on marketing the school aggressively to ensure high enrollment once the construction is complete.
He emphasized that this would generate financial resources to support academic and non-academic school activities.
Upon completion and commissioning, Ruhiija Seed Secondary School will become the second of its kind in Rubanda District, following the commissioning of Nyamweru Seed Secondary School last year.
There will be three such schools in the district, including Kibuzigye Seed Secondary School, whose construction was launched just last month by State Minister of Finance, Henry Musasizi Ariganyira.
