The territorial police of Kisoro have arrested two suspects allegedly in possession of firearms illegally.
They are Sadiki Gashendure 29 years a Congolese resident of Karambo village Bunagana in DRC and Silvani Uwiragiye 32 years a resident of Gatete village Rwaramba parish Nyakinama sub county Kisoro district.
This was on Saturday 12th August 2023 at around 08:00 pm on an intelligence tip-off, when one identified as Sadiki Gashendure passed through the Bunyangaro -Nyabwishenya Kisoro border from DRC with some firearms.
Immediately the security forces of UPDF and Police followed him up to Kisoro Township near Stanbic Bank where he was arrested, and found in possession of two hand grenades.
On interrogation, he revealed that he has an SMG rifle which is kept with one Silvan Uwiragiye who was also arrested and led them to its recovery. The SMG rifle no. 56×20019268, together with 64 rounds of live ammunition was buried in the banana plantation near his home in Gatete.
All the recovered arms together with the two suspects are in police custody as investigations continue to establish the source of the firearms, the motive, and if there are more associates.
