Rev. Fr. Nicholas Atuhe, the assistant parish priest of Rwamagaya Parish, emphasized the critical importance of prioritizing children’s education to ensure they can positively impact society in the future. He delivered these remarks during a mass at the funeral of Johnbosco Kabutorirwe, a 73-year-old man from Nyarwimuka Parish, Ruhinda Sub County, Rujumbura County.

Fr. Atuhe urged parents not to overlook their children’s education, highlighting instances where children are sometimes taken out of school to guard rice during harvest seasons. He emphasized that such interruptions can hinder a child’s educational progress and urged parents to value schooling as a cornerstone for their children’s future.

Regarding local infrastructure issues, Fr. Atuhe expressed concern about the poor state of roads and bridges in the area, which have severely impacted transportation. He called upon residents to unite as a community to rehabilitate these vital access routes, criticizing the government and local leaders for neglecting their responsibilities in providing necessary services.

In a related statement, Gershom Murera, the LC2 chairperson of Nyarwimuka Parish, echoed Fr. Atuhe’s sentiments on education, advocating for a change in mindset among parents. Murera highlighted a concerning trend where primary school enrollment drastically drops from grade to grade, emphasizing the need for parents to prioritize their children’s development over immediate financial gains.

Both Fr. Atuhe and Murera stressed the importance of community effort in addressing these challenges, encouraging residents to collaborate for the improvement of educational standards and infrastructure within their locality.
