Colonel Wilberforce Sserunkuma, the 2nd Division Commander, has warned the public sternly against attempting to attack and disarm police officers performing their duties in the Kigezi Sub-region.
Speaking to our reporter yesterday after a security meeting at the Kabale District headquarters, Colonel Sserunkuma addressed recent incidents where individuals were shot and killed while trying to disarm security personnel in Kabale and Rukiga Districts. The meeting included security officials from Kabale, Rubanda, Rukiga, Ntungamo, Kanungu, Kisoro, and Rukungiri Districts.
In one incident, a 40-year-old man named Kenneth Mutuusi from Nyakabungo Cell, Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District, was shot dead on Thursday after allegedly attempting to murder a woman and disarm police officers at the Muhanga Police Station. This occurred just two days after two police officers from Nyanja Police Post in Kabale District were arrested for allegedly shooting and killing Chris Twinomujuni during an operation against cannabis smokers in Maziba Sub County, Kabale District.
Colonel Sserunkuma stressed that the public should be aware of the serious consequences of attacking security officers, who are authorized to defend themselves and their equipment. He also urged the community to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces to effectively combat criminality.
