Christians have been urged to follow Church teachings and uphold family values in order to build stable and God-fearing homes.
The call was made by the Venerable Stephen Tusingwire, Archdeacon of Kabira Church of Uganda in North Ankole Diocese, during the inauguration of 11 couples into the Mother’s Union and the awarding of outstanding Easter thanksgiving performers at Kabira Church of Uganda Parish in Kabira Town Council, Mitooma District, on May 10, 2026.
Venerable Tusingwire emphasized the importance of observing the key principles of the Mother’s Union, including promoting holy families, proper child care, prayerful living, good health standards, and guidance and counseling. He noted that these values are essential for nurturing responsible children and creating peaceful and stable families.
Canon Night Kampororo, the Head of Laity at Kabira Church of Uganda Parish, expressed concern over the small number of wedded couples actively involved in Church leadership and activities. He said the shortage affects roles such as godparents, church wardens, and other leadership responsibilities, and called for increased sensitization to encourage more couples to wed officially in church.
Meanwhile, the newly elected Kabira Archdeaconry Mother’s Union Coordinator, Ms. Jackline Tushabe Kamugisha, condemned cases of mistreatment against stepchildren. She specifically criticized a recent incident in Mitooma District in which a woman allegedly fed a stepchild with needles. She urged married women to respect and care for stepchildren as full members of the family.
Some of the newly inaugurated members, including Sylvia Tweheyo, Racheal Ampaire, and Brenda Ashaba, thanked the Church for the teachings they received, saying the lessons would help them strengthen their families and transform their lives as officially recognized wives in the community.
