Police in Mitooma District, have apprehended five individuals on suspicion of being involved in a cattle theft incident.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the occurrence on January 24, 2024.
The arrested suspects include Coleb Asimwe, 35, residing in Mukatooma cell, Rubaya Parish, Rubaya sub-county, Mbarara District; Alex Byarugaba, 27, residing in Kampalabigere cell, Biguri Parish, Kamwenge Town Council, Kamwenge District; Adidas Brian, 28, a boda boda rider from Nyakagongo cell, Rutookye Town Council, Mitooma District; Annet Tuhirirwe, 52, a businesswoman from Kajunga village, Ijumo Parish, Mitooma Sub-County, Mitooma District; and David Nabasa, 23, a driver from Sanga A cell, Sanga ward, Sanga Town Council, Kiruhura District.
Reportedly, on January 24, 2024, the police received information indicating that individuals suspected of stealing cows from Kiruhura District had offloaded them on a farm in Mitooma. David Nyabowa, the 50-year-old defense secretary Lc1 of Mitooma Town Cell, Mitooma ward IV, Mitooma Town Council, reported the case to the police. The suspects were apprehended at a washing bay, where they were waiting to receive payment for the sold cows.
Following interrogations, it was revealed that a total of eleven cows were stolen from Kashongi in Kiruhura District, and five of them were offloaded at an undisclosed location in Mitooma District.
