In a bid to foster academic excellence, spiritual growth, and unity, Catholic primary school headteachers from Nyakyibale Parish held their routine termly educational tour at Our Lady of Good Counsel Nursery and Primary School in Rukungiri Municipality.

The event, aimed at learning from the hosting school, financially supporting it, and instilling Christian values in children, drew headteachers, teachers, and learners from across the parish.

During a Mass held at the school, Fr. Deus Tweyongyere, Rector of St. Charles Lwanga Seminary Nyakyibale, commended the teaching staff for their dedication and love towards the children. He likened their early morning sacrifices to teach to God’s love, saying, “Teachers love pupils so much by waking up early to teach them, just like God sent His only son to die for us.”

Fr. Tweyongyere encouraged pupils to stay disciplined and take their education seriously, describing it as “a treasure their parents have given them.” He urged teachers and headteachers to remain hopeful and diligent, reminding them that God is the rewarder of all who faithfully serve, highlighting that even Jesus was a teacher.

Augustine Tibenderana Kayonga, Headteacher of Katoma Primary School and Chairperson of the Catholic Headteachers Association, emphasized that such tours strengthen unity, offer opportunities for professional growth, and promote mutual support. “We do such visits to improve ourselves as headteachers, know each other, and be together in times of need—just as family,” he said.

He noted that through these visits, headteachers also conduct thanksgiving and contribute financially to help the hosting school reduce its debts.

Sister Jane Musoki Tuwombe, Headmistress of Our Lady of Good Counsel Nursery and Primary School, expressed gratitude for the visit, calling it a colorful and successful day. She encouraged pupils to remain disciplined and work together in love and unity to grow into responsible citizens who value education.

Guest of honor, Lydia Tushemerirwe, a retired inspector of schools, urged teachers to treat pupils with love and not harassment, cautioning that negative treatment drives learners away from school. She advised pupils to embrace education wholeheartedly, saying it’s their path to uplifting their families.

Tushemerirwe also called on the Catholic Headteachers Association to strengthen their cooperation and continuously learn from one another to improve school development and performance across the parish.
