The former Mbarara District Chairperson, Capt. JB Tumusiime Bamuturaki, has called upon the public to begin 2025 with a vision of working harder and staying united to improve household incomes. He emphasized that this unity and effort can help more people enter the money economy, fostering steady growth for Uganda.
In his New Year message, Capt. Tumusiime congratulated everyone for reaching the new year in joyful spirits. However, he also acknowledged that some individuals may have faced unavoidable challenges, encouraging them to find comfort and persevere through difficulties.
He urged everyone to strategically utilize the existing opportunities provided by the government, leveraging the prevailing peace, security, and freedom. Reflecting on the challenges and achievements of the NRM government, Capt. Tumusiime noted it should serve as a guide for making informed decisions as the country prepares for the upcoming general elections.
Capt. Tumusiime reminded the public that political leaders are elected to serve as representatives in public office, tasked with lobbying for and delivering services that meet the needs of their communities—not for personal enrichment.
As a senior political leader with vast experience, Capt. Tumusiime advised the public to fulfill their duty responsibly by choosing leaders based on merit, rather than being influenced by tribal or religious considerations. He encouraged voters to carefully evaluate candidates’ manifestos, focusing on the developmental plans they present for the socio-economic transformation of society.
He cautioned against political leaders who seek to divide people along ethnic lines, calling on citizens to be vigilant and reject such divisive tactics. Furthermore, Capt. Tumusiime appealed to voters to prioritize candidates with proven capacity and ability to lobby effectively from the government and development partners to address the needs of the public.
