The wife of the late celebrated Kigezi Region Revival Mission promoter, Rev. Canon Eric John Baabo, Canon Grace Baabo, has been laid to rest today, Saturday 31st January 2026, at her ancestral home in Kyamakanda Ward, Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District.
Canon Grace Baabo passed away on Friday 23rd January 2026 at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala after suffering heart failure. She was aged 88 years. She is survived by eight children, nineteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren.
During the burial ceremony, the Rukungiri District Chairperson, Geoffrey Kyomukama, commended the late Canon Grace Baabo for her dedicated service to the church, government, and for raising a disciplined and responsible family. He urged mourners to always draw lessons from funeral testimonies as a way of transforming their mindset and strengthening moral values in society.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, praised the deceased for nurturing children of integrity, citing her son Richard Kamugisha Baabo, who serves under the Commission. Justice Byabakama called on the public to move forward peacefully following the recently concluded electoral processes, noting that the elections were free and fair.
In his sermon, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, challenged Christians to live righteous lives and avoid sin if they are to enjoy long life. Quoting Genesis 6:3, Bishop Asiimwe reminded mourners that God reduced human lifespan due to persistent sinfulness.
The retired Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Patrick Tugume Tusingwire, encouraged mourners not to lose hope following the death of their loved ones, but instead to remain focused on building a better future.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the deceased’s first-born son, Benon Kwikiriza Baabo, pledged to uphold the values his mother stood for, including promoting fellowship, peaceful families, and doing good to others.
Another son, Richard Kamugisha Baabo, narrated that their mother had been under medical care since 2014 and confirmed that she eventually succumbed to heart failure.
Canon Grace Baabo will be remembered for her strong faith, dedication to service, and contribution to the spiritual growth of families in the Kigezi region.
