The Uganda Wildlife Authority in the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has appealed to the government to enhance telecommunication networks in the Rushaga area of Rubuguri Town Council to promote tourism in the region.

Tindyebwa Ronald, the Tourism Warden for the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, made this appeal during an exclusive discussion with our reporter on strategies to boost tourism in Kisoro District. Tindyebwa highlighted that the southern sector currently suffers from poor network coverage, which hampers communication among tourists, particularly those tracking mountain gorillas. This challenge has discouraged tourists from visiting the area, leading to potential revenue losses.

Tindyebwa called on the government to establish communication masts in the area to improve network coverage, which would, in turn, enhance tourism.

Meanwhile, residents of Nyanamo Town Council expressed their pride in having Bwindi National Park nearby, noting that it has significantly contributed to the development of their area, especially in supporting education for their children.

However, Kenneth Bigezikyi, a senior community advisor in Nyanamo Town Council, speaking at a Thanksgiving ceremony at Nyamirembe Secondary School, urged relevant authorities not to focus solely on developing communities along the national park. He emphasized the need to lobby for investment in all communities surrounding the park, particularly in establishing hotels, to further boost tourism.
