Boda boda riders led by Ahimbisibwe Onesmus and Turyakira Vian, including another cyclist who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed great sorrow while speaking to Boona Radio about the longstanding burden caused by the poor state of roads in the area.

They revealed that the roads have led to the wearing out of their motorcycles and recurring mechanical issues, forcing them to visit garages regularly and incur significant losses. As a result, they have been compelled to charge travelers high fares despite being aware of Uganda’s current financial crisis.

They added that sometimes travelers and those transporting goods in the area fail to pay the high transport charges, which hinders economic development activities such as trade, small enterprises, and the coffee business.

The Bwambara sub-county LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Christopher Kagayano, in his response to Boona Radio, confirmed that it is true some roads are in very poor condition, worsened by heavy rains. He further explained that the roads are made of sandy soil and specifically mentioned the Katobo-Nchweera road as the worst and most stagnant in the area. However, he promised that they have already appealed to UNRA (Ministry of Works and Transport) in Kabale District and pledged that work on the road will begin in May.

Speaking about sub-county feeder roads, Mr. Kagayano confirmed that they have already received money for the Rushaya C and D to Kyeihunde road, including other roads. However, the challenge remains in acquiring a grader to work on the roads despite having the funds. He affectionately asked for continued patience from the affected residents and Boda Boda cyclists.
