The Rukungiri Resident district commissioner, Steven Nsubuga Bewayo has challenged local council Chairpersons to vet the defense committee and do patrols in the area to assist them in fighting lawbreakers in their localities.

He said this yesterday in the security meeting held at Buhandagazi Health Center iii in Nyabiteete Parish, Buyanja Sub-county in Rukungiri district.

Nsubuga added that Buyanja Police has only three policemen and Rukungiri Central Police doesn’t have enough policemen to conduct patrols in the whole district with over seventy Parishes.

He added that people should be the first defenders of their properties and not turn a blind eye to the lawbreakers.

The Rukungiri District Police Commander, Afande Musa Tibakirana urged people to report theft cases without giving up which will help the police find these criminals and handle them according  to the law.

According to the Chairperson LC III of Buyanja sub-county, Agaba Emmy Rubondo, insecurity has been brought about by domestic violence, the use of toxic drugs, and the idleness of people as well as people who defend the lawbreakers.

Agaba revealed that Birara has been the camp of thieves where all the animals that are stolen in the parish are slaughtered.

He however thanked the security personnel led by the Resident District Commissioner and the District Police Commander for their endless efforts and hand in fighting theft.

The District Councilor representing Buyanja Sub-county, Albert Rwamugaata has cautioned the Chairpersons that are conniving with lawbreakers.
